 Early Access to Kindergarten / First Grade

The State of Colorado has determined that students who are identified as highly gifted students may apply for early entrance into kindergarten and/or first grade (Early Access:  Rule Section 12.02(1)(H) and 12.08). 

“House Bill 1021 defines the 4 or 5 year old child who may benefit from early access as a 'highly advanced gifted child.'  This child is academically gifted, socially and emotionally mature, in the top 2% or less of the gifted peer group, motivated to learn, ready for advanced placement, and has exhausted the resources of preschool or home schooling.”

THE DEADLINE FOR THE EARLY ACCESS TO KINDERGARTEN/1ST GRADE APPLICATION PACKETS FOR THE 2013-2014 SCHOOL YEAR IS JANUARY 9, 2013.

 

Application Information

  • Applications for the 2013-14 school year are currently being processed and will be accepted through January 9, 2013.
  • No incomplete applications will be considered.  School and ECE staffs will support parents in checking applications for completeness.
  • Early Access:  Rule Section 12.02(1)(H) and 12.08 states that when applying for early access, preschoolers MUST be 4 by September 1, 2013 to be admitted to Kindergarten and 5 by September 1, 2013 to be admitted to First grade for the 2013-14 school year.
  • Full-day kindergarten will be available at all school sites.  Some schools are tuition-based programs.  Students who qualify for free lunch will have tuition waived.
